Kingsbury Electric offers a $1000.00 scholarship for the following year school term. Also, we will offer an all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C. for the runner-up.
The applicant must be a US citizen and a natural or adopted child of a member of Kingsbury Electric who lives on the cooperative lines. Applicants must also be seniors planning to enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university or vocational/technical school.
The runner-up will be eligible to participate in the Rural Electric Youth Tour. This is a week-long trip sponsored by Kingsbury Electric and coordinated by the South Dakota Rural Electric Association (SDREA).
During the week, participants learn about the Washington, D. C., area, U.S. government, the cooperative philosophy and rural electrification.
Kingsbury Electric realizes it is more vital than ever that today’s young people understand and support the rural electrification program, for they are tomorrow’s leaders and consumers. Kingsbury Electric Cooperative provides funding for the trip. Funding includes transportation, room and board, entertainment and sightseeing events. The participant is required to provide their own personal spending money for items such as snacks and souvenirs.
Among the sites that are part of the tour are the Lincoln Memorial, Washington National Cathedral, the Air and Space Museum, Washington monument and many more.
Also included on the tour is a breakfast briefing with South Dakota’s congressional delegation and an opportunity to job shadow in the delegation’s offices.
The trip will be held in June each year. The participants will meet for an orientation meeting in Sioux Falls the night before departure to Washington, D.C.
To apply, you must complete the required criteria and the scholarship application, which can be obtained from local high school guidance counselors or at Kingsbury Electric’s business office.
